○The Beatles

1960년 리버풀에서 결성된 영국의 록밴드. 1959년에는 실버 비틀즈(The Silver Beatles)라는 이름으로 활동하였다. 비틀즈의 시작이 어디서부터인지 정확히 알 수 없으나, <더 비틀즈>의 저자 헌터 데이비스에 의하면 존 레논(John Lennon)이 엘비스 프레슬리(Elvis Presley)에게 영향을 받았다고 한다. 미미했던 음악적 성과는 1961년 매니저인 브라이언 앱스타인(Brian Epstein)을 만난 후 빛을 발했다. 1962년에는 링고 스타(Ringo Star)를 영입하여 지금의 비틀즈 라인업을 완성하였고, 1970년 4월에 폴 메카트니(Paul McCarthey)가 솔로 데뷔와 동시에 비틀즈를 탈퇴하면서 팀이 해체되었다. 팀이 해체한 후 유명해진 비틀즈의 노래도 많은데, 'Wonderful Christmas Time', 'Let It Be' 등이 있다.
